Reds and Lachlan Barr agree to two-year contract

Adelaide United is delighted to announce the re-signing of defender, Lachlan Barr, on a two-year contract.

Barr’s new deal will see him remain with the Reds until the end of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2023/24 season.

The 27-year-old initially joined as a mid-season injury replacement after an excellent campaign in the local National Premier League with Adelaide City in 2021.

Barr debuted as a late substitute against Melbourne Victory in January but it was not until the following month where he received his first start.

The imposing centre-back quickly exhibited his strong defensive traits and went on to accrue a total of 16 appearances.

Speaking on putting pen-to-paper on a new contract, Barr, said: “I’m so happy to be re-signing with Adelaide United.

“I’ve worked extremely hard to get to this position and I’m grateful to the Club for giving me the opportunity to work in this professional environment amongst a great group of players and under some top-class coaches.

“I’m proud that the Club has rewarded me with a new two-year contract, and I’m confident as a squad we’ll be challenging for silverware again this season.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “Since joining our team, Lachlan has shown he can mix it at this level and has become an important part of our squad.

“His defensive experience and attributes shone with more and more experience, and he quickly looked comfortable against some of the best forwards in the league.

“Lachlan will continue to improve by being in our environment full-time, but the hard work he has put in and the commitment he has shown to get to this level is a testament to the professionalism he possesses.

“Having joined us directly from a long National Premier League season, Lachlan is due a nice break now, but we look forward to him remaining with us for the next two seasons.”
