After another helter-skelter encounter involving Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar, Craig Goodwin says their 5-3 win has given the attacking players extra confidence heading into their home Elimination Final.
The Reds have struggled to find the back of the net with regularity this season but managed to have five different scorers against Brisbane.
Indeed, Goodwin was one of them and arguably scored the pick of the bunch, while George Blackwood, Baba Diawara, Nikola Mileusnić and even midfielder Isaías were all on target in the entertaining contest.
Goodwin admitted his side made it harder for themselves than what it needed to be, though was ultimately ecstatic that the Reds will get to play in front of their home fans in the first week of the Finals Series.
“It’s another very interesting game,” he told Fox Sports following the clash at Suncorp Stadium.
“Obviously the last time we played against them it was 4-3, so I think it was almost ten goals for both teams in the three games all up.
“I think we made it hard for ourselves at times, we scored the first goal and perhaps took it a little too easy.
“But I think it’s a game that gives the attacking players for us a bit of confidence going into the finals.
“It’s three points for us, it’s a home final for us and it’s very important so we just have to go into next week and tighten up the defence and keep the attacking rhythm going.”
As alluded to, the 27-year-old netted an emphatic right-footed strike to make it 3-3 in the 71st minute.
It was the winger’s 10th goal of the campaign and Goodwin revealed since bagging the winning goal in the FFA Cup 2018 Final with his weaker, right foot, it has allowed him to trust it more.
He also added he was thrilled to achieve his personal objective of hitting double figures in the Hyundai A-League season.
“I think the FFA Cup Final gave me a bit of confidence scoring with my right foot since then,” he revealed.
“So I’ve scored a couple with my right, it’s not as useful as my left but for me I’m happy to crack ten goals in a season.
“It’s a proud achievement for me and it’s something I set myself at the start of the season so we’ve got at least one more game to come.
“Hopefully I can get another one next week but now we just have to work hard and prepare for the Finals Series.”
