Adelaide United is proud to announce the signing of Dutch defender, Maruschka Waldus, for the Westfield W-League 2020/21 season.
The 28-year-old boasts a vast amount of experience and pedigree having played in her homeland, the United States, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Iceland, and previously in Australia.
Waldus began her career in 2011 at hometown club, SC Heerenveen, amassing more than 60 appearances over three years.
During the 2016/17 campaign she played 22 matches as FC Twente finished runners-up in the Eredivisie Women league and amassed a further seven appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Waldus also previously enjoyed two seasons in the Westfield W-League with Western Sydney Wanderers between 2017 and 2019.
After each campaign in Australia, she plied her trade in Norway with Avaldsnes and Vålerenga IF respectively.
At Vålerenga, Waldus helped the Oslo-based side win the 2020 Toppserien, the first league title in the club’s history.
Speaking after signing with Adelaide, Waldus said: “I’m really excited to be at Adelaide United and I hope we can make some history together this season.
“When I was contacted by the Club, I had a good feeling about this next move in my career and so far everyone has been welcoming to me and I’m very happy to be in South Australia.
“I believe in the ambitions the Club and our team have, so this is a good fit for us all, and I’m looking forward to working together in achieving these.”
Adelaide United’s Westfield W-League Head Coach, Adrian Stenta, said: “We’re thrilled to have signed Maruschka for the season.
“She has played at some top clubs throughout her extensive career and will provide plenty of experience in our side.
“Marusckha is a quality centre-back and will be a key player in our defensive structure.”
Adelaide United’s Head of Women’s Football, Ivan Karlović, said: “Maruschka is a huge asset for our team and is someone we’ve been speaking to and monitoring for a couple of years now.
“We felt we were a little light on experience in the heart of defence but her signing will help solidify our back line.
“I’m confident the squad we’ve assembled is competitive and will give us the best chance of trying to secure an elusive finals spot.”
