Reds re-sign experienced Spanish duo

Adelaide United is delighted to announce Juande and Javi López have re-signed with the Club until the end of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2022/23 season.

The pair’s current deals were set to expire at the end of June but have now committed to the Club, putting pen-to-paper on new one-year contracts.

Juande enjoyed a strong second year after his mid-season arrival in March 2021.

The veteran central midfielder appeared in 27 matches and was integral in dictating the tempo of games, boasting an 88% passing accuracy rating for the entire season.

After re-signing with the Club, Juande, said: “I’m really excited to be staying at Adelaide United.

“We have a competitive squad and I’m confident we have what it takes to challenge for the title again after coming so close this year.

“My family is also really happy and we love this city, so it was an easy decision to stay.”

Meanwhile, López was arguably the competition’s best right-back this past season following an extremely consistent campaign.

The 36-year-old scored three goals and laid on three assists in 31 appearances, displaying his undeniable quality having spent more than a decade in La Liga with Espanyol.

Speaking about extending his stay by a further year, López, said: “Since joining Adelaide United and living in Australia my family and I have loved every minute.

“I’m so happy to be staying with this great Club.

“We have a special team and were so close to making the Grand Final that I think we can continue to build something very special.”

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “Juande and Javi have both been superb on a number of levels for us as a Club.

“I’ve said it before, but they, along with a couple of other senior players, really help drive the culture in the changeroom.

“Their performances on the pitch were first class this past season and the experience and knowledge they impart on our younger players has been invaluable.

“Most importantly, they’re fantastic and humble individuals so we’re extremely pleased to have secured them for another year.”
