Adelaide United FC is pleased to announce that defender Antony Golec has inked a new two year deal with the club, which will keep him in Adelaide until 2014.

Initially signed on a one year contract, the 194cm Sydney born defender could be excused for having an extra spring in his step tomorrow night in the Reds- match against Gamba Osaka after securing his future in the Hyundai A-League for at least the next two seasons.

A former Australian U-23 and U-20 representative, Golec has played every minute in eight of his nine Hyundai A-League games this season, his debut appearance for the club coming off the bench against his former side Sydney FC back in November.

In what he admits has been a season of ups and downs, Golec is delighted to have taken his chance and proved that he can be an integral part of the Reds- make up going forward.

“It feels awesome. Being a young player, it-s important to do your best because I really want to try and make a career out of it long term, and hopefully it-s just up from here,” Golec said.

“To be honest, four months ago I wasn-t sure it would happen but since then I-ve been playing more games and managed to break into the team, so I-m thrilled to be sticking around and I guess it just shows that hard work pays off.”

“I want to thank the club for sticking by me throughout the season, and now having a two year deal, I want to keep improving and repay the faith the club has shown in me.”

Reds Coach John Kosmina believes Golec-s new deal is well deserved and credited the way the 21 year old has gone about his football, both on and off the field.

“It-s terrific for both Antony and the club,” Kosmina said.

“He has a lot of compassion and respect for this club and that-s important.”

“He-s a young man who seized his opportunity when he got it, he has shown that he can compete and perform at this level and he is definitely a player of the future.”
