Adelaide United can announce promising centre-back, Alexandar Popović, has re-signed with the Club until June 2024.
Popović will remain at Adelaide for at least the next two Isuzu UTE A-League seasons after committing his future with his hometown team.
The 19-year-old defender made his senior debut for the Reds in March and quickly established himself in the starting line-up with several commanding performances.
In 10 matches and nine starts, Popović has demonstrated composure beyond his years since making the step up from the Young Reds.
After agreeing to ink a new two-year contract with the Club, Popović, said: “I’m excited to know my future lies with Adelaide United.
“It’s the Club that gave me my first professional opportunity and I know it’s the best environment for myself to continue to improve and develop.
“I’ve played under Carl (Veart) for a long time and he’s a tremendous coach who’s shown a lot of belief in me and I want to repay that faith.
“Hopefully as a team we can achieve success on the pitch and win some trophies for our amazing fans, who have always supported me incredibly.”
Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, said: “Alex’s transition to the first-team from our youth team has been pretty much seamless.
“He was always a talented player as a junior and just needed an opportunity, which he’s taken with both hands.
“Alex still has a long way to go before he’s the finished product, but all the innate qualities of a tremendous defender are there.
“I truly believe he is one of the best young defenders in the country, however he needs to maintain a strong work ethic and continue to improve.
“We’re delighted that Alex will remain with us and I look forward to seeing him develop further as a Red.”
