Our Reds Rewinds series continues as we reflect on one of the most iconic moments ever seen in the Original Rivalry back in 2011, produced by star striker Sergio van Dijk.

Adelaide United were without a win in 11 consecutive matches against Melbourne Victory ahead of their Round 25 meeting at AAMI Park in the 2010/11 season. But all that would change thanks to a dramatic 4-1 win.

Already up 1-0 thanks to Marcos Flores’ first-half finish, van Dijk grabbed all the headlines after scoring a fantastic free-kick to double his side’s advantage in the second-half.

The Dutchman, fancied his chances from 35-yards out, and drove an unstoppable, swerving free-kick that arrowed into the top corner, leaving a flailing Michael Petkovic powerless.

Van Dijk would later net a second as United not only snapped its winless streak, but secured a first triumph in Victoria since 2006.

Adelaide United face Melbourne Victory in Round 7 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season on Saturday, 8 December at Marvel Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACDT. Live on Fox Sports, and 10 Boss and streamed on the My Football Live App.
