Adelaide United trio, Lachlan Brook, Louis D’Arrigo, and Jai King have today been included in Young Socceroos Head Coach, Gary van Egmond’s, 23-player squad to compete at this month’s 2019 AFF U-18 Championship in Vietnam.
Following a week of training at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, van Egmond has finalised his squad to venture to Vietnam today.
Australia’s squad for the 2019 AFF U-18 Championship is made up of 19 players currently contracted to Hyundai A-League clubs, two players from National Premier Leagues (NSW) outfits, one foreign-based player, while one player is currently uncontracted.
“We enjoyed a really good week of training at the AIS and now our focus shifts to our matches in Vietnam commencing next Wednesday,” van Egmond said.
“Playing fixtures against Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore over the space of nine days will provide this group with exposure to the demands of international football, and help us to prepare for our 2020 AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers to be held in Chinese Taipei in November.
“We expect to perform strongly at the upcoming AFF U-18 Championship however also see the competition as a great development opportunity for this group of players, many of whom are at the start of their professional careers,” he said.
The 2019 AFF U-18 Championship will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from August 6 to 19.
Australia’s Group B games will be played between August 7 and 15. The Semi Finals of the AFF U-18 Championship will be held in Binh Duong on August 17, with the Final to be played in Thong Nhat on August 19.
