Adelaide United’s Youth Team secured an important three points over Adelaide Comets in a Round 2 of the South Australian National Premier League 2018 season on Sunday evening.

In what was a tough game for the Young Reds, their 2-0 win against a strong Comets side came via a dazzling team performance that was highlighted further by forward, Pacifique Niyongabire.

A guarded start to the match saw the Reds enjoy the majority of possession, which they were able to utilise and turn into some dangerous chances.

And in the 20th minute, Niyongabire, with some excellent close control, managed to dance through the Comets’ defence before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home calmly into an open net, putting the hosts in the lead.

Following the opener, Comets looked to get the game back on level terms as quickly as possible, mounting pressure onto United’s defence. However, Niyongabire bagged his brace in the 29th minute following a swift Reds counterattack, smashing the ball in off the post.

A cagey second half from both teams saw Comets have more of the ball, while the Young Reds continued to look most dangerous on the counter, but neither side could add to the scoreline.
