Michael Marrone says the Reds will use their unbeaten run in the Hyundai A-League as a confidence booster as they travel to the Central Coast to face the Mariners on Sunday.
United are still in the midst of a red-hot undefeated streak in the Hyundai A-League and are using this as an effective form of strength to cause Valentine’s Day heartbreak for the Mariners.
And with the Mariners coming off a 4-0 defeat last week, the Reds, who have already overcome their Round 19 opponents once this season, with a 3-1 win in Round 15 at Coopers Stadium, will be looking to pile on more misery onto Central Coast on their own turf.
As a result, Michael Marrone has said that he and his teammates are confident heading into the game with a chance to grasp a top four spot in the back of the Reds’ minds.
“We have been undefeated for a while now, and we just have to continue that,“ Marrone said. “We have a good chance to try and pick up three points away from home and that will put us in good stead.
“Like any other, this game is very important for us and we are ready to roll again in the A-League.
“Again, we want this great form that we have in the league to drive us and continue to be unbeaten in eleven, twelve games, and so on. It would be lovely to do that.”
Despite Central Coast’s position on the ladder, Marrone believes that they do have some dangerous players who can cause the Reds some problems, but will not be intimidated, as United’s focus is unshakeable.
“The Mariners have a lot of pace on the wing and some fundamental players but we won’t be intimidated and we will play whoever they are going to put on,” he continued.
“We will just play our football, and stop those players from getting the ball and getting through (our defensive line). We have a good squad of our own and a lot of players available who can get the job done.
“We want to be close to the top of ladder, and if we keep this streak and form going, we’re all the better for it.”
Adelaide United will face Central Coast Mariners in Round 19 of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season on Sunday, 14 February at Central Coast Stadium. Kick-off is now at 6.30pm ACDT.
