Westfield Matildas Head Coach Ante Milicic today named a 21-player squad for Australia’s forthcoming international friendlies against Chile in Parramatta and Adelaide.
As the Westfield Matildas prepare for next February’s Tokyo 2020 qualifiers against China, Chinese Taipei and Thailand, Milicic has opted to call up a strong squad as Australia’s focus shifts towards next year’s important Summer Olympic Games campaign.
Australia’s roster for the Westfield Matildas’ upcoming encounters against Chile at Bankwest Stadium (November 9) and Coopers Stadium (November 12) features 18 players that ventured to this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and three players – Jenna McCormick, Emma Checker, and goalkeeper Sarah Willacy – who will be seeking to make the most of their opportunities with Australia’s senior women’s football team.
“We held a great training camp in Sydney earlier this month however for footballers nothing beats playing matches,” Milicic said. “The players are all excited by the opportunity to come back to Australia to play on home soil for the first time since the Cup of Nations in March.”
“These two games against Chile will be our only fixtures prior to February’s first phase of qualifying for Tokyo 2020, so we will be treating them with the utmost concentration and professionalism as we aim to make great use of our time together.
“We’re expecting strong home support in both Parramatta and Adelaide, and my expectation is that our team will reward every fan that comes to Bankwest and Coopers Stadium, or who watches from home, with an impressive performance.”
The Westfield Matildas’ two-match series against Chile will be broadcast live in Australia on FOX SPORTS, ABC TV, Kayo Sports, and via the My Football Live App, Live, Fast, and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers.
Tickets for both matches are on sale now via www.matildas.com.au.
Open training sessions will be held the day before both games, giving fans the chance to see and meet the players in the flesh ahead of each fixture.
