Adelaide United is delighted to announce that Adrian Stenta has become the Club’s first-ever full-time Women’s Head Coach.
The appointment will enable Stenta to take the program to the next level ahead of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season with an increase in resourcing and dedicated hours.
Stenta was first elevated to the top role from assistant coach in 2020/21, and that year he was named Coach of the Year at the Dolan Warren Awards for steering the Club to its maiden finals series.
The Reds finished that campaign in third place with nine wins and 27 points in what was also their most successful season to date.
This was all achieved while Stenta was juggling commitments as a teacher at Saint Ignatius’ College.
Stenta has worked tirelessly to revamp the women’s program since he first signed as assistant coach – and previously as a coach within the Reds’ male Youth Team before that – and has long been passionate about youth and female development in South Australia.
Adelaide United Football Club CEO, Nathan Kosmina labelled the appointment a major step forward for the Club and growth of the female game in South Australia.
“The appointment of Adrian as a full-time coach is a significant move for our A-Leagues program,” he said.
“We identified this season as the perfect opportunity to consolidate the strides made in our own program over the last few years, along with the boom of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and we can’t wait to see further progress of our football program on the back of this investment.
“The Club is grateful to and congratulates Adrian, and we are extremely confident he can lead United to another A-League finals series and continue to develop the next generation of South Australian talent.”
Sincere and personable, Stenta is honoured to become the Club’s first full-time coach.
“I want to thank Adelaide United and all the people before me and my coaching staff who have fought hard and paved the way to what our women’s program has become,” he said.
“I’m proud and really privileged to be here with my home club and have the chance to be a part of something so significant, and further, it is an honour to now work in the program full time.
“The challenges and opportunity for growth amongst the playing squad and the whole coaching staff are exciting, and we can’t wait to give our all in the season ahead.”
