Stenta: We’re really confident heading into this game

Liberty A-League Head Coach Adrian Stenta says there were a lot of positives to take away from United’s defeat to Victory last weekend and is looking for his team to create better and clearer goal scoring opportunities.

Adelaide United will take on Brisbane Roar at Marden Sports Complex on Saturday 16 March at 2pm (ACDT). Tickets for the game are available here

Speaking after his sides final training session on Friday, Stenta discussed the teams fitness, what he expects from Brisbane Roar and Emily Hodgson potentially playing her 100th game.

Adrian Stenta on last weekend’s loss to Melbroune Victory:

“It’s an interesting one because if you didn’t see the game, and you saw the score line, you could think that was a bit of a one sided affair, but it wasn’t like that at all. I think there were plenty of positives to come out of the game. There were a couple of big decisions in that game that didn’t really go our way, which was unfortunate but plenty of opportunities were created, we had a lot of shots on goal.”

“We’ve just focused this week on trying to create better and clearer goalscoring opportunities rather than the sort of half chances that we created against Melbourne Victory. And we feel like if we do that, then we’ve got a really really good opportunity to get a win this weekend.”

Adrian Stenta on squad selection ahead of Brisbane Roar on Saturday:

“The squad is in a good position, health wise and fitness wise, so few selection headaches for me this week and just making sure we get the balance right to try and win this game. Also, knowing that we’ve got quite a short turnaround to our next couple of games as well.”

Adrian Stenta on what he expects from Brisbane Roar:

“Every opponent presents some challenges, particularly the way that they play and set up but some opportunities for us to try and exploit as well. So we feel like we’ve got a good understanding of the way Brisbane play and what they want to do and how that can challenge us, but also the opportunities it’s going to present and we’re really confident heading into this game that we can have a positive performance which hopefully will lead to a positive result.”

Adrian Stenta on Emily Hodgson potentially playing her 100th game:

“I’m really proud to have played a small part in her journey. I know the hard work that’s gone into getting to this point for Emily. I know some of the ups and downs that she’s had throughout her career as well. I’m really thrilled for her. She’s one of our most consistent players both at training and in matches. Emily is quite unassuming, goes about her business and loves rolling up her sleeves and getting into the hard work. She’s fantastic for our group and we’re really going to get around her this week, because she deserves it.”
