Just over a week ago, Harry Crawford stepped up to score a sensational free-kick in the RAA NPLSA against Sturt Lions.
The following Saturday, the teenager scored the biggest goal of his career, on the biggest stage, in one of the biggest games of the Club’s recent history.
Pressure? Not for Harry.
“I wouldn’t say I was under pressure, because there is so much faith from Airton and all the coaching staff who believe in us,” Crawford said.
“Obviously I was a little nervous going into the game, my first ever Semi Final, but after a few touches on the ball, I settled down.”
In the 63rd minute of a wet Semi Final first leg, a dazzling run from winger Yaya Dukuly created Crawford’s moment.
Arriving in the right place at the right time, the youngster finished from close range to score just his second A-League goal — and one that meant the world.
“It felt amazing, and it gives me confidence going into next week,” Crawford said.
“With Yaya putting that ball across, I couldn’t miss.
“It feels good to score again, something I haven’t done this season.”
On the result itself, Crawford said the Reds were satisfied to return to Adelaide level, but clear that the job is far from finished.
“I felt happy with a 1-1 draw,” he said.
“It was a good result to take away from Auckland, but we go into next week knowing the job isn’t finished yet.
“We go back home to Coopers, with all the support there, and we’ll try to get the result.”
Crawford has had to be patient this season, continuing to build rhythm and confidence through minutes in the RAA NPLSA side, alongside several senior A-League players.
For the teenager, those minutes have helped prepare him for moments like Saturday night.
“Playing in the NPL and getting minutes, getting my confidence up, scoring goals in the last few games there, that has helped,” he said.
“It reminds me that I’ve done it before — to keep going, stay the same, and not stress or overthink things.
“Just go out there and play my game.”
And his next potential game is a big one.
Next Friday, at an already sold-out Coopers Stadium, United will have the chance to qualify for the Grand Final for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2016.
“I’m so, so excited for the game — I just can’t wait,” Crawford said with a beaming smile.
“I wish it was now.
“I can’t wait to get out there and see all the crowd. I know it will be pumping, and with the fans backing us, I really think it’ll be a good game.”
The Reds take on Auckland next Friday night at Coopers Stadium.
