Adelaide United midfielder, Dylan Holmes, says she was left surprised to win the Dianne Alagich Medal at the 2023 Alagich Vidmar Awards on Tuesday night.
Holmes was a consistent force in the centre of the park for Adrian Stenta’s squad throughout the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking to media at Coopers Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, Holmes spoke of her feelings after having some time for the recognition to sink-in.
Holmes said:
“It was a really nice surprise to win (the Dianne Alagich Medal).
“I definitely wasn’t expecting it, but it’s a really big honour and I was over the moon.
“Through a tough season, I tried to be as consistent as I possibly could.
“We had a lot of injuries and players were unavailable and my mindset was, every time I stepped onto the field, I wanted to make sure I gave my all and tried to be consistent throughout.
“I’m proud of myself in the way that I went about my business but disappointed on a team level that we couldn’t achieve the goals that we set out for.
“If you ask any of us (players), we’d always prefer a championship over individual awards.
“So I think maybe (winning this award) is a little bit of a silver lining on a personal note, but I think the disappointment of our season is still there.”
