A model of versatility, Elrich has been a pillar in the Club’s recent success since arriving in the city of churches in 2013. Able to operate on both flanks as a full-back, he combines raw pace and tenacity to maraud forward at will, while also remaining an impregnable presence when defending in one-on-one situations. Elrich joined the Reds after an unsuccessful stint with the Western Sydney Wanderers, prior to a seven-year stay with the Newcastle Jets. It is a move which has since revived his career. The attack-minded full-back thrives when overlapping his wide counterparts, whipping threatening balls into the box regularly. His scintillating form, particularly during the 2014/15 season, was inevitably rewarded with his first of three Socceroos caps. Elrich may not find the back-of-the-net often as a defender, but when he does, the goals he scores are nothing shy of emphatically jaw-dropping – highlighted by his goal of the season award following a mesmerising solo effort versus Melbourne City in April 2015.
