The fortress that is Coopers Stadium is my second home. As a dedicated member of AUFC, the Committee of the Red Army, and the Members Representative Group, the joy of returning for a home game is unparalleled. What’s truly impressive is seeing past legends still involved with the Club, returning to the stands to support the next generation wearing the kit.
For me, nothing beats leading the Red Army on the drums, hearing the crowd jump and chant along to “sha-la-la,” and getting messages from friends who live around 1km from the ground, telling me they could hear it from their lounge rooms.
My greatest memory has to be the 4-0 win against Melbourne City in the FFA Cup Final in 2019. After a close 2-1 loss to City the previous weekend, we were written off by the media and pundits. But with cracking goals from Al Hassan Toure, Halloran, Mileusnic, and McGree, the celebrations and noise around the ground were insane.
This was a pinnacle reminder: no matter where we are on the ladder or the squad, Coopers, the fans, and the members are the lifeblood that flows in that kit and brings home the results. United we stand, United forever.
