Adelaide United managed to secure a 3-1 comeback win over Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium on Saturday night, thanks to an inspired second-half performance.

Here are three things we spotted from our second victory of the season:

Reds’ resilience impressive

Away from home in one of the toughest places to play football and get a result, Adelaide could have easily dropped their heads after falling behind. Instead, the concession was the catalyst they needed to spark them into life. After a slow opening half hour, Adelaide took complete control and dominated the second stanza and were lightning quick in transition. It ended up being a strong display on the road and a real character-building performance, with the key trying to now consolidate this triumph with a win over Brisbane Roar at Coopers Stadium on Friday.

When it rains, it pours

Ken Ilsø was yet to score in a competitive match to the start the season for the Reds. But that was about to change in his third league start of the campaign. The Dane, leading the line, rose to the occasion when the team needed it most. With the match poised at 1-1, he bagged a second-half brace in clinical fashion to seal the win for Adelaide.

His first goal arrived in the 47th minute when he expertly placed his header past the Wellington goalkeeper from Michael Marrone’s cross. And he did not have to wait long to net his second for the Club, finishing off an incisive attacking move some 18 minutes later. His intelligent forward runs throughout the encounter caused the Phoenix defence a number of headaches for a player traditionally deployed behind the striker.

Regan resolute in first start of the season

The defender was flawless in his first start and appearance of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 campaign. Replacing Michael Jakobsen, who missed the match with soreness, Taylor Regan was simply unwavering in centre-back. He boasted an 86% passing accuracy rate, while making vital interventions and clearances. Regan and fellow centre-back partner, Jordan Elsey, recorded a combined 15 clearances and a 100% successful tackle rate.

Adelaide United host Brisbane Roar in Round 6 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season on Friday, 30 November at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACDT. Gates open 6.20pm.
