Travis Dodd Returns to Adelaide United as Assistant Coach

Adelaide United is thrilled to announce that former captain and club legend, Travis Dodd, is returning to the Reds as an Assistant Coach for the upcoming ISUZU-UTE A-League Men’s 2024/25 season.

Dodd, 44, who made 166 appearances and scored 39 goals for Adelaide United, will join Head Coach Carl Veart and Assistant Coach Mark Milligan in the senior coaching team.

In his new role, Dodd will provide crucial support to Carl and Mark, while also assisting in the development of the club’s youth players in the senior setup. Dodd’s return marks a special reunion with the club he once led on the pitch, and his deep ties to both the Club and the local football community make him a perfect fit for this new chapter.

Speaking on his return, Dodd said:

“I’m incredibly proud to be back at Adelaide United, the club that has always felt like home.

“This club means a lot to me, and I’m excited to work alongside Carl and Mark to help take the team forward and continue developing young local talent.

“I can’t wait to get started with Carl, Mark, the coaching staff, and the whole Club, and give back to the fans who have supported me throughout my career,” Dodd said.

Dodd’s coaching journey began as an Assistant Coach with MetroStars from 2017 to 2020, where he also served as an Assistant with Adelaide United’s A-League Women’s team.

Travis has spent the last four years as a Senior Coach of Croydon FC in the RAA NPLSA. His experience, both in the local game and at a national level, ensures he brings valuable insight to Adelaide United’s first team and youth transition.

Ernest Faber, Adelaide United’s Technical Director, praised Dodd’s appointment, stating:

“Travis is a fantastic fit for the People’s Club. Not only is he an up-and-coming coach, but he’s also someone who knows the DNA of Adelaide United inside out,” Faber said.

“His experience in local football and his connection with the community will be invaluable, especially as we focus on transitioning our NPL youth players into the first team.

“We’re delighted to have Travis back and are excited about the impact he will make,” Faber concluded.

Dodd’s career milestones include becoming the first Australian player to score in the AFC Champions League, and as a trailblazer for Indigenous Australians, he was the first Indigenous player to represent the Socceroos, earning two caps for his country. He also had a successful playing career locally, representing Adelaide City and MetroStars.

Adelaide United looks forward to seeing Travis Dodd in action once again, this time on the sidelines, as he begins this exciting new journey with the Club.
