Veart and Reds ready for Western test

Carl Veart spoke to media ahead of his side's departure for Melbourne to face Western United.

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, spoke to media on Saturday prior to the Reds’ flight to Victoria for Round 5 of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2022/23 season.

With United looking for consecutive wins in the league for the first time this campaign, Veart again highlighted the need to improve finishing and being weary of a Western United side looking to bounce-back from a slow start to the year.

A tough encounter to come:
“It was good to get a first win at home (last week) and now we’re back on the road again against Western (tomorrow).

“They’re not having the best run at the moment, but they’re last year’s Champions, so it’s going to be a tough game.

“We (need to) make sure we start well and not give them any opportunities to go one-nil up.

“I suppose they haven’t been playing that badly (and) I’ve had a look at their games so far this year and it’s just football.

“You (have) to score when you’re on top and make the most of your chances.”

Good vibes to turn into good goals:
“The mood for the playing group has been good most of the season.

The Reds in good spirits during training at the VALO Training Centre.

“When we look back at our own games, we’re creating the opportunities and we’re creating good opportunities.

“We’re just not being ruthless enough to take those opportunities.

“So again, this week, we’ve worked on finishing and hopefully that can show tomorrow and we can take a few goals.”

Lachlan Barr returning:
“(We are) very happy with the way Alex (Popović) and Ben (Warland) have played the last couple of games.

“Lochie missed one or two games just through that slight calf injury and he will come back into the squad.

Lachlan Barr has returned to the Adelaide United squad for Round 5.

“He showed his quality for us at the end of last season and in the beginning of this season, so it’s good to have competition for spots in the team.”
