Veart dissects “tremendous” Reds effort

Carl Veart gave his thoughts to 10 Football following his side's 2-2 draw with Sydney FC in Round 3.

Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, has spoken to 10 Football following his side’s 2-2 draw with Sydney FC.

The Reds played the majority of the Round 3 clash with ten-men after referee, Daniel Elder, gave Hiroshi Ibusuki his marching orders in the 40th minute of the clash.

Up until that decision, United had been on top and were in the lead thanks to a quality Ryan Kitto goal, however had to claw back to a level terms through Harry Van der Saag after a quick-fire double from the hosts.

The red card:
“First of all, I have to give full credit to our boys for the way they dug in and got a point.

“Their effort was tremendous.

“It’s not a great spectacle for our game if we’re going to make decisions like that.

“Whether it was a red, or not, I don’t know; it looks very, very soft to me.

“It was a very good game up until that point.

“I don’t think our fans all around Australia want to see players sent off for things like that.

“I’m all for protecting players, but there has to be some force (in tackles to warrant a red card).

“There’s no force there and it was at the end of an action.

“His foot had virtually stopped moving when the contact was made.

“It’s something we need to look at because we’re trying to get a lot of people to watch the games and they’re going to be put off with things like that.”

Message at half time:
“We just wanted to win the game and we wanted to make sure we blocked the middle of the pitch up and force them wide.

“I think, in the first ten minutes of the second half, we were a little bit too passive and stood off the ball a little bit too much.

“But after that, we were very good.”

First home game around the corner:
“Our home ground is like a fortress to us and we get our fans behind us, so it’s always like playing with an extra player.

“So, we might need that extra player next week after playing so long today with ten (men).
