Carl Veart was pleased with his side’s resolve after Adelaide United produced a hard-fought 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar at Coopers Stadium on Sunday night.

Craig Goodwin’s 23rd minute strike was the difference between the two teams.

Veart acknowledged the Reds were not at their fluent best but praised their application and resoluteness.

“It’s always good to get three points,” Veart told reporters in the post-match press conference.

“We weren’t at our best tonight but the boys dug in and managed to do enough to get the win.”

Veart said it was frustrating Adelaide could not be more clinical and convert the chances it conjured up to put the game to bed.

“We had the opportunities and that’s been our Achilles’ heel so far this season,” he said.

“Just finishing off those opportunities when we have created good opportunities.

“It would make it a bit easier for ourselves but we don’t like to do too many things the easy way.”

The vital result lifts the Reds into equal third with 35 points alongside three other clubs on the A-League ladder.

Veart was confident its maiden victory in six matches can ignite another favourable run of results to guarantee a finals appearance.

“Winning breeds confidence,” he continued, as Adelaide travel to face Perth Glory on Wednesday.

“That first 20 minutes tonight wasn’t good for us and whether that was because we were a bit anxious maybe a little bit, but we have to win and if we want to play finals we have to perform under pressure.”
