Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, spoke to media at Coopers Stadium on Thursday afternoon, back from illness which saw him miss the Reds’ clash in Round 12.
Veart was ruled out from coaching United against Melbourne Victory last week with a bout of pneumonia, however has returned to managing the team this week ahead of Friday’s clash with Macarthur.
His illness:
“I’m pretty much over the most of it now.
“I’m still not quite 100 per cent, but a lot better than what I was this time last week.
“I had a high fever for about four days and then it just returned from there.
“The doctor made me go into hospital and get all the tests done, and that’s where I sort of picked it up and got then straight on to the medication.
“So now I’m much better and just looking forward to getting back on the pitch tomorrow night.”
Importance of Bulls match:
“It’s critical for where we want to finish in the league.
“And at the moment, we’re just holding on to the top six spot and it’s not where we want to be.
“We want to be higher up the ladder and in the last six weeks our performances just haven’t been good enough.
“The players are well aware of that and all of us have to pitch in together and work hard and get ourselves out of this little rut that we’re in.
“We’re at home and generally at home we put on good performances, so that’s what we need tomorrow night – a good performance and get the three points.”
Changes at centre back:
“That’s what the squad is for.
“You’re going to have, over the course of the season, you’re going to have injuries, you’re going to have suspensions, and it’s important that you have a squad and players that step in and do the job when we select them.
“And there’s an opportunity tomorrow night for for Ben (Warland) and Nick (Ansell) to perform.
“If they perform well they keep their position.
“It’s important that we reward players that are playing and if they perform, they keep their position and it’s up to (all) the other players to hold their positions in the team.”
