Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says he is pleased with the way his team responded throughout training this week ahead of Sunday’s game with Western United, however warned them of losing focus in games.

Veart was left somewhat disappointed following Round 23’s draw with Sydney FC, lamenting the side’s efforts on the park leading into that fixture and the manner in which they performed overall.

However, Veart gave a glowing review of his team, which is looking to further solidify its place in the Isuzu UTE A-League top two with just three matches to go before finals.

Team reaction from last week:
“The boys have responded well.

“They were disappointed with the performance last week.

“But you saw out there (at training) today that there was a good atmosphere and high level.

“So that’s what we want, we want the trainings to be at the best level because that gives (the team) the best chance to have success in the game on the weekend.”

Exceptions from Western United:
“Western started the season a little bit flat and they’ve been chasing ever since then.

“We only played them seven weeks ago and we went down 2-0 there, and then came back in the last 15 minutes.

“The boys know the way that Western play, they’re a good side, and once they get a little bit of momentum in the game, they’re a very difficult side to play against.

“So it’s important that we have a good start, like we did last week.

“We had a good start last week, but we just didn’t go on with it in the second half, so it’s important that we have that focus and that intensity for the full 90 minutes.”

One week at a time:
“We know that we can’t go lower than fourth, so it’s important that we still keep focused on what we want to achieve and how we want to play and make the small changes that we need to against the opposition.

“As I said, tomorrow is going to be a tough game against Western who arguing to come out quite hard.

“So it’s important that we don’t give them too many opportunities and make the most of ours.”
