Game 2 v Villareal Youth…
Adelaide United Youth-s second game of the 2012 Weifang Cup was always going to be a test against Villareal, the youth side from the Spanish giants prevailing 2-0.
Unlike their opening match against Shandong, the Reds started slowly and conceded in the opening two minutes.
Under early siege, goalkeeper John Hall produced two great saves to keep Adelaide in the game before they began to settle late in the half produce some chances of their own.
Now well aware of what they were up against, the Reds came out strongly after the break as they restricted Villareal-s sights on goal and went about making opportunities at the other end.
John Karatzas sent a shot just wide of the mark before two great runs out wide by Awer Mabil created chances for both Jacob Melling and Anthony Trimboli.
Then against the run of play Villareal scored a second after United coughed up possession in the middle of the park.
That was how the score would stay up to the final whistle, with the Reds Youth to meet the Chinese Youth Team in their final game of the qualifying stage.
