Adelaide United defender, Ben Warland, has labelled the Reds as a “force to be reckoned with”, following its 3-2 win over Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday night.
Warland scored a brace, with Hiroshi Ibusuki burying United’s third in a win that puts six points between the Reds in second and Wanderers in third.
Speaking to Paramount+ following his man-of-the-match performance, Warland gave his thoughts on the match and his side’s very strong form of late.
Warland said:
“We work on set pieces a lot at training with Eugene Galekovic, so we pin-pointed that front-post area was a weakness of theirs.
“With (Craig Goodwin’s) delivery, he can drop it on a dime, so I knew if I could get myself (to the near post) past their runners and blocks, I might be lucky to get on the end of a couple.
“When they got that goal back, we should have defended that set piece better.
“And we’ve done that a few times this season – we’ve scored a couple and then conceded quickly – which is something we have to rectify.
“But we’re working really hard at training.
“Carl’s said our intensity at training has been top-notch for the last three months because we’re unbeaten in 11 games now.
“We’ve come good at the right end of the season and we’re a force to be reckoned with.”
