Adelaide United will travel to Western Sydney this week to take on the Wanderers in the Westfield W-League – the squad’s opening match of the new 2017/18 campaign.

The Reds’ W-League Head Coach, Ivan Karlovic, is feeling positive ahead of his side’s first competitive match, and is confident that his players can show the rest of the league what they are made of.

“Having the bye last week meant that we had more time to prepare for Round 2, and the girls have worked hard and they’re ready for the first game of the season,” Karlovic said.

“It also gave us the opportunity to get some of our players back in time, especially the foreign players and Jenna McCormick, who will be available for the game which is a positive for us.

“We have definitely strengthened the squad but at the same time most of the other teams have also made some great signings.

“It is a tough competition and I think it will be very even and we’ll have to be our best even game for a chance to make finals.

“I believe we will be consistent throughout the season and hopefully we can start the season off well against Western Sydney in which we will give it our best shot.”

Commenting on having to travel for their first W-League match, Karlovic said that his players will have no problem and they have already gotten the feel of what it is like as a team.

“We had a trial game a couple of weeks ago against Melbourne Victory, where we had to travel for,” Karlovic continued.

“A lot of the girls that will be playing against the Wanderers weren’t there on the trip but for some of the others it was a good opportunity for them to get the taste of travelling with the group and to get to know each other.

“It was also good for them to gain understanding of what I’m looking for as a Coach, when we play away and the level of professionalism we need to try and upkeep.”

Adelaide United will travel to Marconi Stadium to face Western Sydney Wanderers FC for Round 2 of the Westfield W-League 2017/18 season on Friday, 3 November 2017. Kick-off is at 7.00pm ACDT.
