Adelaide United Women play host to Perth Glory Women at Marden Sports Complex on Friday night – kick-off has been delayed until 8.30pm due to extreme heat.
- KICK-OFF DELAYED: Westfield W-League Round 8 fixture to kick-off at 8:30pm
Both sides are winless this season with the pair only separated by a point on the table thanks to the Glory collecting a draw against Canberra United Women in mid-December.
Adelaide spurned a plethora of chances before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Sydney FC Women, something which Reds defender, Emily Hodgson believes has been the story of their campaign.
The Reds have been more than competitive in all of their matches but have struggled putting the ball in the back of the net.
“I think we’ve been pretty unlucky,” the right-back said.
“We’ve been playing really well, and creating lots of chances, but we just haven’t been able to finish them.
“I guess we’ve been gifting the opposition a few goals, most of the goals (we’ve conceded) have come from our errors which is quite unfortunate.”
Perth suffered a 2-1 home setback to Melbourne Victory Women last round as they too are still searching for their maiden victory.
Hodgson hoped her side could secure the win and felt the heat will play some factor in proceedings, but was more than confident they will be well prepared for the scorching conditions.
The temperature is expected to reach a top of 42 degrees celsius during the day.
“I think it will be a really good game and hopefully we can get the three points out of it,” she said.
“The heat will definitely make it harder. I guess we’re used to it at training at the moment.
“But it will definitely affect the game and it will probably come down to desperation. Who wants it more, seeing we’re both chasing the points at the moment.”
Since missing the opening round, the 19-year-old has started five straight games, completing 90 minutes in all but one.
She credited her strong form in defence to her teammates.
“I think I’ve been playing pretty well,” she continued.
“But I put that down to the team as well, I think when the team plays well, individuals play well so it’s a massive team effort.”
