The youngster put the South Australians in front five minutes later before turning provider with a brilliant assist for Stefan Mauk’s second to claim a 3-1 come-from-behind win.

“It was an enjoyable moment for me scoring my first goal for the Club in the Original Rivalry, I enjoyed it a lot,” Yengi told Fox Sports following the match.

After the 22-year-old converted Craig Goodwin’s low cross following a defence-splitting pass from Javi López, Yengi ran off in celebration, jumping over the advertising boards and lifting the ire of the Victory fanbase.

Yengi explained the reason for his celebration which is now enshrined in A-League folklore and  has instantly become another moment synonymous with the Original Rivalry.

“All my friends back home and family told me if I scored against Victory I had to go and egg the fans on a bit,” he joked.

“… I just wanted to get in their face and stir them up a bit.”

Having grown up watching the Reds and now representing his hometown team, Yengi is fully aware of the magnitude of such a clash and what it means to the South Australian footballing public.

“I always went to watch the Original Rivalries back at home at Hindmarsh,” he added.

“I really got involved with the Club when Fabio Ferreira played, he was a very close friend of mine and I used to come and he used to give me tickets so it meant a lot to me and the Club.”

It was an impressive cameo from the striker and he admitted that Head Coach, Carl Veart, has played a massive part in his development.

Since making his debut last year, Yengi now has 10 appearances for the Club.

“I’ve had Carl for a while, he coached me in NTC,” he said.

“So I think we’re starting to get a really good bond and he’s taught me a lot of things throughout junior football and I’m just trying to bring it onto the field now.”
