“I’d like to congratulate the FFSA on such a wonderful initiative. Adelaide United is thrilled to be playing this game in the Riverland region and I truly hope that it’s the first of many games we play in regional South Australia.
“It should be a great contest and I know our team is hoping for a big crowd on the day,” said Mayer.
The NSR Australia Regional Round, first established in 2013, has now expanded to include four regional areas:, Mount Gambier, Riverland, Roxby Downs and Whyalla. The growth of this initiative supports FFSA’s commitment to developing football in Regional South Australia.
FFSA Chief Executive Officer Michael Carter is delighted to bring such a highly anticipated match to the Riverland and is confident that there will be lasting legacy for football in the region.
“The NSR Australia Regional Round is an initiative that we are very proud of. The Riverland has a strong sporting history and we are pleased to have a partner in the Renmark/Paringa Council.
“The event not only brings a competition fixture to an area that would other wise not experience this high level of football, it provides awareness of our sport and provides resources and opportunities to the local Association to further grow football in the region.
“FFSA and the Riverland Soccer Association encourage the local public to attend what will certainly be a fantastic game of football and event.”
West Adelaide Soccer Club Chairman Alex Alexandrou told that the club is looking forward to the fixture.
“The Riverland is a great supporter of our game. A lot of our traditional support comes out of the Riverland, so it’s perfect for us to reunite with them.”
FFSA will conduct a number of community based activities in the Riverland in the lead up to the event with further details to be released via the FFSA website.
