Young Reds face Strikers

The Adelaide United Youth Team will face the Western Strikers, in Round 24 of the NPL State League at Carnegie Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

The Young Reds are looking to stretch their unbeaten run to five in which they have scored a total of 27 goals in their last four games.

However, the Western Strikers also find themselves in some good form as they are currently second only two points off league leaders Adelaide.

Coach of the Adelaide United Youth Team Michael Valkanis, believes the round 24 game holds a lot of importance as it gives either side a chance to extend their gap on the table or cut it back.

“We know how important this match is for the club,” said Valkanis.

“As a team, we need to be at our best against a good side like Strikers who play very good football.

“To do this, we need to continue playing the style and be a bit more assertive going forward so we can hopefully score goals.”

Valkanis continued to speak about the combination play, which paid dividends in last week’s win Adelaide Olympic.

The Adelaide United Youth Team’s clever combination play saw them score three second half goals to unlock Olympics defence and finish with a strong win.

“Our combination play last week in the attacking third was very good,” said Valkanis.

“So we will hopefully try to emulate that again this week, we know the pitch conditions will be different but I think we are able to execute this no matter what.

“Overall, we know it’s a tough match but hopefully we are able to come away with the points and open a bit of a gap at the top of the table.”
