The Adelaide United Youth Team has returned to winning ways after a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Seaford Rangers at the Elite Systems Football Centre on Saturday afternoon.

In wet and windy conditions the Young Reds started the more focused of the two sides, controlling possession and concentrating on the style of play.

Wing backs such as Oliver Zafridis and Mark Ochieng were given plenty of room to move, enabling them to start attacks from the wings.

The Young Reds came close to an opener in the 14th minute, after a teasing ball in by Niko Apostolopoulos found winger Antoni Trimboli who couldn’t quite get the connection needed allowing the Seaford defender to clear the ball with ease.

Adelaide United started to became confident in attack and in the 19th minute Mark Ochieng found Niko Apostolopoulos, who curled in a low driven cross allowing Trimboli to capitalise on the opportunity and side foot the ball into an unguarded net giving the Young Reds a 1-0 advantage.

With the rain pouring down Adelaide became well-adjusted to the conditions, remaining dominant and concentrating on the job at task.

In the 26th minute Adelaide United found their second of the match, as Mark Ochieng this time found space on the right and whipped a low driven cross for the arriving Doni Pollock who had the easiest of tasks to tap into an open goal.

Although Seaford mounded attacks, the Young Reds dealt with them well through both Ben Warland and Jordan Pudler who were defensively sound.

Three minutes from the interval Adelaide United had a third. This time left wing back Oliver Zafridis was played in by Antoni Trimboli who crossed in for Doni Pollock who scored an identical goal as his first, side footing the ball into the bottom of the net. At half time the Young Reds were leading 3-0.

After the break it was Adelaide who started in control, yet Seaford scored a much needed penalty through Philip Rideout to give the visitors hope.

The match started to become much more even in terms of attacks however, it was Jordan Pudler who scored a delightful free kick just outside the area almost sealing the result for the Young Reds.

Although the result was sealed the Baby Reds were not to be denied. This time substitute Alec Maiolo found Antoni Trimboli who scored his second finishing the match off in style. The Young Reds ran out eventual winners 5-1.

After the match, consistent defender Oliver Zafridis said the match meant a lot to the team after a quite hectic two weeks.

“It’s a fantastic result and good to get back to winning after back to back losses,” said Zafridis.

“We worked on a few new things at training this week and they paid off today and worked well enabling us to score goals and defend well.”

“We have to continue this form going into Wednesday night against Sturt. We know the pitch well and hopefully we can open them up and score more goals”.

Doni Pollock after the match was also pleased to complete his dry spell in front of goals and was happy to have scored a brace.

“I was happy to get two goals tonight after a bit of a rough patch in the last two weeks,” said Pollock.

“It was a great result for the boys and hopefully we can continue this form heading into the weeks to come.”
