Young Reds put three past Demons

The Adelaide United Youth Team has recorded back-to-back victories in the NPL State League, after beating the Northern Demons 8-0 at the Elite Systems Football Centre on Saturday afternoon.

A hat trick of goals courtesy of Dylan Smith and Doni Pollock made life difficult for the visitors, which was then all but sealed by goals to Tom Love and Nick Polli.

In cold conditions, the Northern Demons started well with a strong defensive structure forcing the Young Reds to hold the ball whilst looking for an opening.

In the fifth minute Adelaide’s dominant possession based football paid dividends, which enabled Captain Adam Piscioneri enough space to send through a sublime chip through ball into the path of Tom Love who lobbed the ball over the keeper giving the Young Reds an early 1-0 advantage.

The Northern Demons found rhythm after conceding first, pressuring the Adelaide United squad forcing them into turning over the ball.

However due to the Demons inability to apply score board pressure, it allowed the Young Reds to counter attack through Dylan Smith. Smith found himself just inside the 18 yard box one on one with the keeper, after a pass from Yianni Nestoras which he made no mistake handing the Young Reds a 2-0 advantage heading into the half time break.

After the restart, the Young Reds looked sharp especially through their wing play, feeding the ball to Antoni Trimboli and Yianni Nestoras.

In the 62nd minute, Adelaide recorded their third goal of the match, after the ever so consistent Oliver Zafridis sent in a low driven cross to the feet of Doni Pollock tapping the ball into the bottom corner.

Four minutes after Dylan Smith doubled his advantage after pouncing on a Northern Demons back pass which he slid the ball past the keeper making it 4-0.

Adelaide’s ruthlessness in front of goal was a delight for the fans, as Doni Pollock scored his second goal through a similar way as his first courtesy of an Antoni Trimboli low driven cross.

In the 73rd minute Jordan Pudler tried his luck with a shot from outside the box, in which it fell into the stride of Smith who brought up his second hat trick into two weeks. Nick Polli came on and scored his second in two weeks while Doni Pollock put a full stop on the match in injury time scoring his third and Adelaide’s eighth.

Coach of the Young Reds Michael Valkanis commended his side’s strong ability to play the style and finish their chances created.

“In the last two weeks we have been pretty ruthless in taking chances and scoring goals,” said Valkanis.

“But what I’ve been more impressed with is the boys not being content with scoring just a few goals, but finishing off matches well and playing to the end.

“In saying this we have plenty of tough fixtures coming up so we need to remain consistent, play the style and hopefully we can do that against Playford next weekend.”
