Young Reds win first game in MIC Tournament

Overnight, the Adelaide United Youth team defeated FC Central Los Angeles 4-0 in their first game at the 2015 Mediterranean International Cup (MIC).

From kick-off, the Young Reds were in complete control of the game dominating possession in their attacking half and creating lots of chances.

The Los Angeles based team held off the Red’s early pressure with some solid defending and lucky goalkeeping, but it was Trimboli who eventually broke the dead lock. He scored from a cut back from De Donatis after a great build up that opened the game up and gave even more confidence to the boys.

For the rest of the game, the Young Reds continued to apply pressure through their attacking style of game not letting the opposition any chance of getting back into the game.

Other goal scorers were Gerard, McGree and De Donatis.

Youth Team coach Michael Valkanis was very pleased with the performance of their first match in the tournament.

“We were very professional and played well throughout the game,” said Valkanis.

“It was a strong first up performance and a very important 3-points.”

Tomorrow morning (local time) the Young Reds take on Spanish giants FC Barcelona and later on in the afternoon local Catalan side Palamos.

“It will be a heavy schedule tomorrow but we have a great opportunity to play our style against the best team in the world and gage the level we are at,” said Valkanis.
