It’s been a solid last couple of weeks for us and there’s still plenty to gain from the season.
Our firm aim is to gain six points from these last two games and really gather some steam for an even better start to our next campaign.
Playing at Coopers is always a great experience for the girls, and while we would have loved a win in front of our home fans against Newcastle, I hope you were all entertained and enjoyed the comeback.
Of course, it would have been nice to play a little later in the day and closer to the men’s game, which I sincerely hope will be reviewed in the off-season.
I still did want to say a huge thanks to those that managed to get there on the day, and for all your unwavering support in a challenging season.
On the field, were absolutely thrilled for Katie (Bowler) to score her first goal at home and at Coopers Stadium, and she has developed in leaps and bounds this season.
Emilia Murray has also continued her progression, and she was a constant threat off the bench against the Jets, and deservedly nabbed the equaliser for us.
The future is very bright here at United, and we’ve seen some extremely encouraging performances from each of our young players which says a lot for our homegrown system.
The squad’s depth has been stretched too, so I applaud the roles Chrissy Panagaris and Erin Kontoutsikos have played for us and the way they’ve gelled seamlessly with the group.
It shows we’re producing great talent here at Adelaide, and I’m really pumped for the future.
And of course I must give a special shoutout to Nano (Nanako Sasaki), who has been a real force across the midfield all season, and her last couple of months have been especially exceptional.
Nano’s a bit of a quiet assassin. She comes in, does her job, and does it so well week in week out, and she’s a fantastic team-mate.
She’s been flying lately while remaining so cool and calm on the ball, her ability to turn players inside out is unmatched, and she is always chipping those balls to the far corners with ease.
I think those who know South Australian football are acutely aware how good she is and has been in the WNPL for Adelaide Comets and City before that, and her transition to this level a little while ago was seamless.
As a team, we still want to get as many points as we possibly can, and we want to play some exciting football with a nod to next season.
That continues with Sydney FC away this weekend, and we tend to put in a solid performance against them so I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
When we play well as a unit, we are dangerous, and teams don’t enjoy facing us.
We’ve got nothing to lose, and I would love nothing more than for us to finish the season strongly.
