Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signings of exciting young Australian prospects Mitchell Smith and Denver Minster on 3-year scholarship contracts
Both players earned their opportunities with the Reds following successful trial periods with the Club, continuing Adelaide United’s commitment to identifying, developing and providing genuine opportunities for the country’s best emerging footballers.
Sydney product Smith arrives in Adelaide following several formative years in the Spanish academy system, most recently with Real Zaragoza’s Under-19 side in the División de Honor Juvenil, the highest level of youth football in Spain.
The talented striker began his development with Mongo Football Club before moving to Spain at a young age, spending three seasons with Escuela de Fútbol Huesca and also gaining experience within Sporting de Gijón’s youth environment.
Smith joined Real Zaragoza ahead of the 2025/26 season, making his youth debut against FC Barcelona.
Mitchell said:

For Smith, the move represents an opportunity to bring the experience gained during his development in Spain back to Australia and continue his progression in a senior professional environment.
A skilful and creative wide player with significant development potential, Smith will wear the number 27 for the Reds.
Fiftneen-year-old defender Minster joins from Gold Coast United after establishing himself as one of Queensland’s most promising young players.
Minster has progressed rapidly through the Football Queensland pathway, representing Queensland at Under-14, Under-15 and Under-16 level across the past three seasons.
His performances at the 2026 CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships saw him selected in Football Australia’s Under-16 Team of the Tournament, where he was named as one of just four defenders nationally.
Minster has also already experienced senior NPL Queensland football with Gold Coast United and was named joint Player of the Series at the 2025 Bill Turner Cup.
He will wear the number 88.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to join Adelaide United. I’m looking forward to getting to work, learning as much as I can and continuing to develop as a player.
“I can’t wait to get started, be around the team and hopefully have the chance to play in front of the Reds fans.”
Football Director Mitch van Gellekom said the two signings reinforced the Club’s determination to provide a pathway for Australia’s best young talent.
“Mitchell and Denver are two really exciting young players who we believe have a big future ahead of them. They have come through very different football environments, but both showed during their time with us that they have the talent, mentality and hunger we are looking for.
“Mitchell has spent important development years in Spain and comes back to Australia with experiences that are quite unique for a player of his age. He is creative, direct and has the ability to make the difference in the final third. We believe there is a lot more to come from him.
“Denver is only 15, but his maturity and confidence really stood out to us. He has already played senior football in Queensland and showed throughout his trial that he was not intimidated by stepping into our first-team environment. He is an exciting defensive prospect with a lot of potential.

We want Adelaide United to be the best place in Australia for talented young players who have the ambition to become professional footballers and ultimately take their careers to the highest possible level.
