Paul Vanis Appointed Head of Youth and A-League Men’s Assistant at Adelaide United

Adelaide United is proud to announce the appointment of Paul Vanis as the Club’s new Head of Youth and A-League Men’s Assistant Coach on a four year deal.

Alongside coaching the NPL side from next season, this appointment also finalises the A-League Men’s coaching staff under Head Coach Airton Andrioli where Paul will help the transition of youth players to A League setup.

At just 38 years of age, Vanis brings 20 years of uninterrupted coaching experience and a reputation as a key architect of South Australia’s exceptional youth development system. He has been instrumental in Football South Australia’s elite talent pathway for over a decade, shaping the future of the game with humility and an unwavering commitment to player development.

Currently in his 12th year coaching within Football South Australia and fifth as Head Coach of the NTC Boys program, Vanis has played a direct role in the development of many current Adelaide United A-League players, including Amlani Tatu, Ryan White, Ethan Alagich, Panagiotis Kikianis, Luka Jovanović, and Harry Crawford.

Vanis has also coached South Australian teams at the National Youth Championships from 2016 to 2025, leading squads that consistently impressed on the national stage.

With South Australia recognised as the nation’s leading producer of young football talent, Vanis has been a central figure in that success — a fact widely acknowledged across the football community.

Vanis told United Media:

“During my time with Football South Australia, I had the privilege of working with some of the state’s most promising young talent, helping lay the groundwork for their long-term development. I’m excited to continue that journey with Adelaide United, supporting more young South Australians in reaching the A-League and beyond.

“I believe that a successful youth development program fosters an environment where players are constantly challenged, feel confident to express themselves, and are encouraged to learn from their mistakes.”

Adelaide United Technical Director Ernest Faber said:

“Paul’s appointment is a reward for years of dedication, expertise, and consistency.

“He has helped shape the next generation of Reds with humility and excellence. His eye for talent, deep understanding of the game, and passion for youth development make him an ideal leader for this crucial role. We’re proud to welcome someone of Paul’s calibre into our football department.”

Vanis holds a Football Australia AFC A Diploma. His coaching career began as a teenager after suffering a third ACL injury – a moment that ended his playing days but sparked a journey that has since impacted hundreds of young players.

In total, Vanis has directly coached:

● 70 players who have progressed to the Adelaide United Youth Team
● 24 players selected for Joeys or Young Socceroos squads
● 25 players who have gone on to play in the A-League

The Club congratulates Paul on his appointment and looks forward to the continued success of the Youth Program under his leadership.
