United’s Ernest Faber honoured by PSV Eindhoven

Adelaide United congratulates Technical Director Ernest Faber on receiving the prestigious title of Honorary Member of PSV Eindhoven, awarded during his recent scouting trip to Europe on behalf of the Reds.

Faber, 53, was formally recognised in PSV’s newly opened Founders Club at Philips Stadium prior to the PSV v Sparta Rotterdam fixture on Saturday evening. He received the club’s gold pin from PSV President Ron Verkerk, joining an esteemed list of football greats to be bestowed with the honour, including Hans van Breukelen, Coen Dillen, Eric Gerets, Willy van der Kuylen, and Willy van de Kerkhof.

The Eindhoven-born football figure has enjoyed a remarkable association with PSV spanning four decades. Beginning as a youth player in 1984, Faber progressed to the professional ranks in 1990, spending time on loan with N.E.C. Nijmegen and Sparta Rotterdam before making his senior PSV debut in 1992 under coach Hans Westerhof. That same season he claimed his first silverware, winning the Dutch Super Cup against Feyenoord, and famously marked Marco van Basten in a Champions League clash with AC Milan.

Faber’s post-playing career has been equally distinguished. He began coaching at PSV in 2004, later serving as Assistant Coach to Phillip Cocu and Dick Advocaat, interim Head Coach of the first team, and, from 2018, Head of Youth Development at PSV Academy.

Adelaide United Club Owner, Cor Adriaanse, praised Faber’s achievement

“We are incredibly proud of Ernest for being named an Honorary Member of PSV – a well-deserved recognition of his lifelong dedication to football and his remarkable impact both in the Netherlands and here in Adelaide.

“As someone from Eindhoven and a lifelong PSV supporter, I have had the privilege of watching Ernest’s career and pathway in football develop over the past decades, from his early days as a player through to his leadership roles. Seeing that journey now recognised by his home club makes this moment even more special,” Adriaanse said.

“On a personal note, I am extremely proud to be working alongside Ernest and our other Adelaide United team members to make our club stronger now and in the future. His leadership, vision, and commitment to player and club development inspire not only our players and staff, but also our entire community,” Adriaanse concluded.

Adelaide United congratulates Ernest on this exceptional honour and looks forward to the continued influence his experience and expertise will have on the club’s football operations and long-term development.
