Reds return to the road for Central Coast clash

After successive matches against Western Sydney Wanderers, Adelaide United will be determined to return to winning ways.

The Reds played out a 0-0 draw against the Wanderers in Sydney last time out and are fully aware they need to continue collecting maximum points to remain in the top four.

Adelaide recorded a dramatic 2-1 triumph in its most recent meeting exactly a month ago tomorrow, when Nestory Irankunda struck a sensational late winner in the second minute of stoppage time.

However, since their the Mariners are unbeaten in their last four and tamed Macarthur FC 4-2 last weekend.

There has also been just the one stalemate in this fixture since August 2010, which transpired in February 2018 – quite a remarkable statistic.

Team news

Michael Jakobsen remains on the sidelines with a groin injury, but Carl Veart suggested he may be back next week. Jacob Tratt also misses the clash with a hamstring issue.

What the expert says

Cameron Watson: Mariners have been in good form. Although, last time they met Adelaide got the win. Adelaide been a little bit inconsistent lately. Will miss Goodwins absence of Covid related issues are around.

One to watch

Cameron Watson: Goodwin if he’s eligible.. or else, Ibusuki could be the danger man with his presence and experience against CCMs young defenders.

Key battle

Cameron Watson: Oli Bozanic and Isaías will be a great battle. Two very good players who can control and dictate the game for their teams. Whoever takes control of the midfield will have the better of the game.

One change you’d like to see

Cameron Watson: Potentially have someone closer to help Ibusuki in attack. Maybe Blackwood next to him as a two up front or Clough in behind as a 10 to support him.

Prediction

Cameron Watson: Controlling the Midfield is key I think. Big game needed from Isaias and Juande. This will give an opportunity to clough/Ibusuki in attack. Adelaide 2-1.
