Adelaide United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ivan Karlović as Head Coach of the Club’s Women’s Team for the upcoming Westfield W-League 2017/18 season.

Karlović has been with the Club for numerous years working with both the Youth and Women’s Teams.

He worked closely with former Reds Head of Youth Development and Women’s Football, Mark Jones, in the National Premier League as well as the interim coach of the Women’s Team.

Karlović also assisted current Youth Team and ex-Women’s Team Head Coach Huss Skenderovic in both competitions.

Karlović stated he was looking forward to the challenge and determined to qualify for the W-League finals.

“It’s a great opportunity and obviously I’m very thankful for the Club for trusting me with this important role,” Karlović said.

“Hopefully we can continue on from the solid season last year and keep on improving.

“We’ll have many goals throughout the season, but of course it’s about looking to make the finals for the first time in the history of the Club.”

Karlović was formerly Head Coach at MetroStars, leading the Club to the 2014 National Premier League (NPL) of South Australia, as well as the National NPL Championship the same year.

A former defender, Karlović amassed 44 appearances in the National Soccer League with Adelaide City and Sydney Olympic, before joining MetroStars in 2004 – serving as the club captain from 2006 to 2010.

Karlović revealed the type of playing style he will be looking to implement during his time in charge.

“I like to play an attacking, organised brand of football that hopefully excites the spectators,” he said.

“But more importantly a style of football that gets results and brings us some more success to the side.”

Adelaide United’s General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, welcomed Karlović’s appointment, saying: “Ivan has been with our Club for a number of years now and is a very ambitious coach.

“Having worked with our youth setup for a while, he’s now ready for the next step in taking charge of our Women’s team and we’re sure he’ll do a fantastic job.”
