Reds partner with John Moriarty Football for Indigenous Football Week

Adelaide United is proud to announce it is partnering with the John Moriarty Foundation for Indigenous Football Week.

Adelaide United is proud to announce it is partnering with John Moriarty Football (JMF) for Indigenous Football Week (IFW).

With the Reds hosting Perth Glory on Sunday, 30 October 2022 at Coopers Stadium, the Club, as well as all clubs in the A-Leagues, is committed to ensuring our game is culturally safe and inclusive at every level, focussing on the representation of Indigenous communities in football this week in particular.

United will also be honoured by John Moriarty, himself, attending Sunday’s match.

Moriarty was the first Aboriginal footballer to be selected for the Socceroos, going on to be inducted into Football Australia’s Hall of Fame. He also represented Port Thistle, Port Adelaide, Adelaide Juventus, and Adelaide Croatia during his playing career in South Australia specifically.

Adelaide United and the A-Leagues are using IFW to rally fans and partners to donate to the JMF to allow the organisation to continue to make a positive impact in Indigenous communities.

The JMF is an Aboriginal-established foundation that enables Aboriginal families and communities to unlock their children’s potential. By embracing the Aboriginal worldview, its locally-led programs are radically shifting intergenerational disadvantage. Established in 2012, the JMF delivers two groundbreaking and interrelated community solutions in remote and regional Australia, Indi Kindi early learning and John Moriarty Football.

Every week the JMF delivers to over 2,000 Indigenous children in 23 public schools across 19 remote and regional communities in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and New South Wales.

It is achieving proven progress in 13 of the 17 Closing the Gap targets and A-Leagues is committed to helping the JMF continue this significant and vital work.

Adelaide United coaches, players, staff, members, and fans will embrace a live Welcome To Country prior to Sunday’s kick-off, while representatives of former Reds Captain, Travis Dodd’s, SA Indigenous Football program will form a guard of honour for the two squads as they enter the field of play.
